Know thyself....: New Jersey Wedding Photographer

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

I had an interesting day ending in a strange dilemma. This may not seem like a big deal, but I need to write a bio page for my website. Not too terribly urgent, but I think my site should have one. I don't know why the idea of writing my bio is making feel all awkward like a goofy teenager. I have a hard time taking myself seriously enough to write about myself. However, I loooove what I do, so I don't want to sound like I don't take that seriously....do you see what I mean about being all AWKWARD!! My friends are delightful writers and set the bar high. Anyway, I leave this out there - anybody have a helpful suggestion? I leave you with a shot from my nature-fest from the other day....

We Brake For Light....: New Jersey Fine Art Photographer

Friday, September 25, 2009

Have you ever heard the saying, "did you get dressed in the dark?!" I know it's not a nice thing to hear, but that's what was going through my head while I dressed in the dark. I coordinated things by feel alone. Why? To go on an adventure of awesomeness with Kate Callahan, photographer extraodinaire. Kate was too kind to agree to this for me. You see, she is not a morning person, and she had to kindly put up with me (I don't even drink coffee...) practically jumping out of my seat - "OOOHHH, fog!!! Stop the Car!!!" She didn't even give me a dirty look. She just smiled and pulled the car over while she tried to wake up. We were following the light today (the photography kind), where ever it may lead us. Actually Kate was pretty much leading me all over the place. And I had a blast. I was on assignment from J Gallery. We were on a hunt for nature (with an occasional prop appearing). Here is a small preview - see the rest at J Gallery. By the way - this print will be framed and given away at the Bouche Bridal Expo in Cherry Hill on September 27. If you're a bride - come on by!

Gill & his Around-da-way Girl: Philadelphia Wedding Photographer

Monday, September 21, 2009

I spent Saturday in the grungiest of places, under the Walt Whitman Bridge...and it was wonderful. I had company, Lisa and Gill, who put their trust in me right from the start. They were all color coordinated: seriously, if anyone ever has trouble coming up with an outfit for their shoot - you should give them a call. They had it locked down. I enjoy creating black and white shots from my sessions, but these guys were soooo awesome in color, they made it hard for me. Enjoy guys.

I had a song stuck in my head....and I kept singing it...What can I say, it's good for a laugh.

This one is fierce...

I sometimes say "we're going to hold hands in this one..." What I mean is "you will hold hands"....not hold hands with me...right, Gill... ;)

I'll leave you with one of my favorites from the day...

Don't you just love babies, especially when they're brand new, and all they do is sleep....well, hopefully. I got the chance to photograph Renata & Damien's new baby girl. She's adorable, and soooo tiny. I have two huge boys, so it's always a treat for me to be with the tiny little girls for awhile. I love my job. Here is a sneak preview - now, not all the shots are like this. In fact, this is the only one I have ever done like this - but it was totally worth it.

I had an awesome portrait session with my friend, Kate Callahan. She is an amazing photographer, and we decided to do a portrait session of each other. She has given me the green light to post the pics. So, enjoy. She looks fabulous.

Here comes the Bridal Show!!: Greater Philadelphia Area Photographer

Monday, September 7, 2009

The time is fast approaching...my first Bridal Expo!!! It will be at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), an awesome museum/school in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. I love this place. I shot my first wedding here and actually had my art on display here for a contest when I was in high school (yes...a long time ago). This place holds a special place in my heart. The event is:

Saturday - September 26th @ 5pm - 8pm.

So come by and tell everyone how much you love my stuff... Or, if you know some one who is getting married, send them by. The event is free!! I'll be there with special pricing and a "trash the dress" session give-away.

I'm not Worthy!!!: New Jersey Photographer

I was on a mission today. I put myself in my clients shoes, and I got MY picture taken for a change. My beautiful and oh-so-talented friend, Kate Callahan, took my pics, and I took hers (frankly, I got the better deal.) Kate is a pro and makes everyone look like a million dollars. I am a rookie, and poor Kate was kind enough to let her guard down and allow me to take her pics. It was and honor and a privilege, Kate doesn't let too many take her photo (I'm the same way - but when Kate Callahan offers to take your picture, you say YES) I'll let Kate decide if she likes the picture first... But here are some crazy pics I took of my boys before we went out today.

Thanks again Kate. Not only did I have sooo much fun and learned a ton, but also your suggestion about changing my code worked!!! You let me take your picture AND YOU FIXED MY BLOG!!! Love your guts.

You know we love to play dress up (more girls will own up to this than boys). I got my good friends to play dress up with me and run all over town...no I'm not a hypnotist. My friends are truly lovely people, big hams, but truly lovely ones. Melissa put on her wedding dress after the big day...2 years after. And yes, it still fit. sigh. We headed out to Pheonixville to take the majority of the pics, but we stopped at so many fun spots along the way. Dennis was a good sport. I knew it wasn't his favorite thing to do - but he is an awesome guy, and played along. Although, he wasn't smiling too much...until I said, "hey, let's go get a beer." Then his face lit up like a kid in a candy store (this is during the photo shoot). To the bartender at the bar next to the Colonial movie theater (sorry, I'll edit the name in later) I have a brief message, "Thanks for letting me get behind the bar, sincerely, One Drink." All in all, great day. Thanks Melissa and Dennis. You rock.

Eat your heart out Anthropologie.

Behold, Dennis' smiling "beer" face.

It's movie time... This theater is where the 50's movie, the Blob, was filmed. awesome.

The end of the shoot...who knew modeling was so tough?

Thanks again guys, love your guts.

Singin' in the Rain: Philadelphia Photographer

| |

I was expecting a nice quiet evening at home Saturday night. I had invited my brother to come out for a night shoot of Philadelphia...I didn't expect him to take me up on it. But, hey, I'm always up for a fun shoot. So we get to South Street when the heavens opened up and let loose a deluge...A DELUGE PEOPLE!! This was no ordinary rain. Needless to say, we were drenched and running back to the car within the first 5 minutes of the shoot. My brother looked annoyed to say the least. I tried to make light of the situation (very out of character for me...) I managed to get him to stick it out. We went allll over town taking shots from the car (or hanging directly outside of the window. We had a blast and ended up shooting until 1am. The rest of the photos will be up at my brothers site: www.thej-gallery.com. This is just my personal favorite of the night.
